Show Up for Yourself: The Power of Self-Celebration

Why You Should Always Show Up for Yourself

Do you show up for yourself, or are you expecting others to do it for you? When you achieve a goal or accomplish something amazing, do you wait for others to praise you, or do you take a moment to celebrate yourself?

It’s crucial to reflect on these questions. In order to feel celebrated, valued, and appreciated, we need to generate these feelings from within. We need to show up for ourselves instead of expecting validation from family, colleagues, managers, partners, or even our children and parents.

The Desire for Validation

When we desperately seek approval from others, it often indicates a deeper need: the need to cherish ourselves. We can’t expect others to be there for us if we aren’t showing up for ourselves first.

Why Self-Celebration Matters

When you praise yourself, feel your own worth, and show up for yourself in hard times, good times, and even in free moments, you’ll notice something incredible. People will naturally start to show up for you too—with joy and genuine care. This shift begins with you.

A Personal Story: Turning Disappointment into Empowerment

Today, I had an appointment with someone, and for personal reasons, they didn’t show up. At first, I felt disappointed. Why didn’t they leave a message to explain? But I quickly realized that my disappointment wouldn’t bring them back or get me a message.

Within minutes, I shifted my energy and mindset. I decided to show up for myself instead. I took the one hour that was supposed to be our appointment and invested it in myself: 30 minutes of dancing and 30 minutes of writing in my gratitude and life journal.

The result? I felt amazing. I used my time to uplift myself, rather than letting disappointment weigh me down.

The Key Takeaway

Don’t wait for others to show up for you. Show up for yourself! When you do, you’ll feel empowered, resilient, and at peace. And soon enough, others will start showing up for you, too—but only after you’ve learned to be there for yourself first.
